Experience Unprecedented Clarity with Bausch + Lomb enVista® IOL

If you’re living with cataracts, it might be hard to imagine returning to a world where colors appear more vibrant, edges are sharply defined, and distance viewing is crystal clear.  But removing your cloudy vision-impairing lens comes with the opportunity for new vision thanks to vision-correcting intraocular implants (IOLs).

Different IOLs are intended to correct diffrerent vision problems, like nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. There's no “one size fits all” IOL, so Assil Gaur Eye Institute supports more than 16 of the best IOLs on the market, always choosing the best one for our patients’ needs.

One of the leading lenses we use is the Bausch + Lomb enVista IOL, which offers exceptional visual acuity and clarity.

A short history of the Bausch + Lomb enVista IOL

In 2012, Bausch & Lomb Incorporated unveiled the revolutionary enVista IOL. This advanced IOL has since transformed the visual landscape for countless cataract patients, significantly enhancing their quality of life.

Over the years since its introduction, this IOL has improved in both material and design. It is softer, unfolds better during cataract surgery, and is more stable. There is also a newer toric IOL for astigmatism patients.

What are the advanced features of Bausch + Lomb enVista IOL?

The enVista IOL is known for its outstanding features, specifically engineered to provide unparalleled visual outcomes. Its distinguishing characteristics and benefits include:

Superior material and optical design

The enVista IOL is a single-piece hydrophobic acrylic IOL. The hydrophobic acrylic sets it apart from its competitors by keeping water at bay. This prevents lens glistenings — those tiny spots or reflections within the lens that can obstruct clear vision.

A glistening free lens rating from the FDA

In mid-2012, the Food and Drug Administration approved the enVista hydrophobic acrylic IOL (Bausch + Lomb). This lens is the only FDA-approved lens with labeling that states, “no glistenings of any grade were reported for any subject at any visit in the clinical study.”

“The FDA approved the enVista IOL as glistening-free following a 122-eye clinical trial involving six sites. All implanted lenses were evaluated by slit-lamp investigations and photography, and no incidence of glistenings were detected at any examination.”

Advanced aspheric design

The enVista IOL’s aspheric optic design closely mimics the natural curvature of the eye's lens. This offers improved contrast sensitivity and visual quality, even in low-light conditions. This spherical aberration-free design provides a desirable compromise between depth of field and image quality It is 300% more resistant to compression vs traditional hydrophobic acrylic platforms and that the haptics are more rigid, providing more support to the lens against the capsular bag.

Monofocal vision with unparalleled clarity

As a monofocal IOL, the enVista lens is designed to focus on a single distance – typically far vision. While patients may still need reading glasses for near-vision tasks, such as reading, distance vision's overall clarity and quality of vision are unrivaled.

A tailored solution for astigmatism

Recognizing the unique needs of patients with astigmatism, Bausch + Lomb has developed the enVista Toric lens IOL. This specialized lens addresses the irregularities of the cornea associated with astigmatism, bringing patients the vivid visual experiences they deserve.

What are the downsides of the Bausch + Lomb enVista IOL?

While the Bausch + Lomb enVista IOL is praised for its advanced optics and impressive results, it also has potential limitations that patients should be aware of. However, it's essential to note that since its FDA approval, there have been few adverse events reported regarding the enVista IOL. Most experts such as Dr. Kerry Assil and Dr. Sodhi Gaur of the Assil Gaur Eye Institute, provide positive anecdotes about their experiences with it.

Nevertheless, some potential downsides that may be associated with the enVista IOL include:

Monofocal limitation

The enVista IOL is a monofocal lens, meaning it is primarily designed to provide clear vision at a particular focus point, usually distance. Patients may still need reading glasses for close-up tasks.

Individual results may vary

As with any medical IOL, the results with the enVista IOL can vary between patients.

Lack of added features

Unlike certain multifocal and accommodating IOLs, the enVista lens has yet to add features such as correction for presbyopia.

Contact the Assil Eye Institute today and let our team of caring professionals find the best IOL for your needs.

At Assil Gaur Eye Institute, we understand that each patient's needs are unique, so the IOL solution must be as well. As industry leaders in advanced eye care, our knowledgeable and compassionate team is dedicated to identifying the ideal IOL to optimize your visual outcomes and ultimately enhance your life.

Our extensive experience in intraocular lens implantation makes us uniquely qualified to make this procedure the safest possible.

Our own Dr. Kerry Assil, one of the pioneers of laser lens implantation surgery, has been involved in developing and clinically testing numerous premium intraocular lens advancements over the years. Moreover, Dr. Assil was the first eye surgeon in the United States to use the ORA System for intraoperative vision testing during lens implantation.

Some of the steps we take to marry today’s most advanced technology with a meticulous surgical approach include:

  • We use state-of-the-art measuring systems to precisely obtain our patient’s eye power and intraocular lens size.
  • Use the LensAR Femtosecond laser, the most precise laser available today, to accurately define the shape and size of your natural lens.
  • Use our microsurgical approach, which performs lens exchange surgery through a 2mm incision with a state-of-the-art injector. This allows for faster healing and vision recovery.
  • Using “cold” ultrasound technology during surgery to minimize eye swelling. This makes for safer surgery and promotes faster visual recovery.
  • AGEI surgeons are experienced in the implantation of a wide range of intraocular lenses so that we can fit you with the best product type and lens shape to match your eye.
  • Other ophthalmologists and industry leaders have chosen AGEI throughout the U.S. for their vision care.
